Distinct miRNAs associated with various clinical presentations of SARS-CoV-2 infection

Recent research by Chinese scientists has revealed 85 unique microRNAs (miRNAs) from 116 COVID-19 patients using NGS and machine learning. Gene ontology analysis and KEGG-based pathway enrichment analysis showed that unique miRNAs are associated with viral infections, immune responses and lung disease. In addition, the miRNA-based machine learning model helped classify the severity of COVID-19, making it possible to find potential miRNA biomarkers which are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
