In May 2022, a new variant of Omicron BA.2.75 appeared in India. Japanese scientists by carrying out multilevel studies have shown that the new variant BA.2.75 is likely to be a more dangerous variant than the currently dominant variant of the Omicron BA.5. The BA.2.75 was observed to exhibit increased replication index and fusion, but on the other hand decreased sensitivity to neutralization by therapeutic antibodies compared to BA.5. Therefore, there is a continuing need for in-depth surveillance of virus genomes by global organizations. The manuscript was published in Cell Host & Microbe.
