Using multiagent modeling to forecast the spatiotemporal development of the COVID‑19 pandemic in Poland

An interdisciplinary team of Polish scientists has presented a multiagent model simulating the development of the COVID-19 pandemic at the regional level. The developed model uses a number of parameters including the spatial and demographic differentiation of Poland, the mobility of its inhabitants, and above all the level of restrictions imposed in relation to the pandemic. The model was made available to the public and tested in three representative regions of Poland: Masovian, Warmia-Masuria and Subcarpathian Voivodeships. The results indicate that the implementation of social distancing and limiting mobility is key to stopping the pandemic before developing an effective vaccine.
